DNA self-assembled parallel computer architectures

چکیده
New varieties of computer architectures, capable of solving highly demanding computational problems, are enabled by the large manufacturing scale expected from self-assembling circuit fabrication (1012–1019 devices). However, these fabrication processes are in their infancy and even at maturity are expected to incur heavy yield penalties compared to conventional silicon technologies. To retain the advantages of this manufacturing scale, new architectures must efficiently use large collections of very simple circuits. This paper describes two such architectures that are enabled by self-assembly and examines their performance. (Some figures in this article are in colour only in the electronic version)

Advances in materials science, chemistry, and self-assembly are anticipated to enable the fabrication of massively parallel computer systems. An important aspect of this development is the design and evaluation of system-level interactions and performance based on the fundamental properties of emerging nanoscale devices on real computer applications. This paper will present the design, evaluati...
متن کاملDNA Architectures for Templated Material Growth
A methodology that allows for the coupling of biology and electronic materials is presented, where double stranded DNA serves as a template for electronic material growth. Self-assembled DNA structures allow for a variety of patterns to be achieved on the nanometer size scale. These DNA architectures allow for feature sizes that are difficult to achieve using conventional patterning techniques....
متن کاملParallelizing Assignment Problem with DNA Strands
Background:Many problems of combinatorial optimization, which are solvable only in exponential time, are known to be Non-Deterministic Polynomial hard (NP-hard). With the advent of parallel machines, new opportunities have been emerged to develop the effective solutions for NP-hard problems. However, solving these problems in polynomial time needs massive parallel machines and ...

CONSPECTUS: Nucleic acids have become powerful building blocks for creating supramolecular nanostructures with a variety of new and interesting behaviors. The predictable and guided folding of DNA, inspired by nature, allows designs to manipulate molecular-scale processes unlike any other material system. Thus, DNA can be co-opted for engineered and purposeful ends. This Account details a small...
متن کاملSelf-assembly of DNA arrays into multilayer stacks.
We describe the self-assembly of multilayer hexagonal DNA arrays through highly regular interlayer packing. Slow cooling of a mixture of three single-stranded DNA sequences with various Mg2+ concentrations leads to the self-assembly of diverse multilayer architectures. The self-assembled aggregates were deposited onto mica surfaces and examined with atomic force microscopy. The size of the two-...
